Each year, we run a survey with our residents and families to hear directly from them: what we are getting right, and where there is room to grow. This allows us to keep improving and innovating, so we can continue delivering the highest standards of care our residents deserve. We are pleased to share the findings from our latest 2025/2026 survey.
What Our Residents Say
The feedback from residents in our latest survey at Alderwood is truly exceptional, residents scored the home 100% on every aspect of care and home life that the survey explored. Every resident told us they are happy with the care and support they receive, 100% feel supported to maintain their independence, and 10 out of 10 said the team treats them with kindness, dignity and respect.
It is the unique combination of a dedicated team, outstanding facilities, beautiful surroundings, and a rich and fulfilling daily life that makes Alderwood such a special and happy place to live. Residents captured this perfectly in their own words, with one telling us, “I love it all, I feel blessed to live here. My room is beautiful and I love all the activities, especially the children from schools,” while another simply shared, “The gardens are beautiful and the food outstanding.”
What Our Families Say
Families at Alderwood were equally full of praise in our latest survey. Every relative confirmed they are happy with their overall experience of the home, and families told us their loved ones are treated as individuals, supported to be independent, and that their privacy, choice and dignity are respected at every turn. Relatives told us they feel welcomed as part of the Alderwood community and are confident and reassured in the care their loved ones receive.
The strength of feeling from families was remarkable, with one sharing, “This home is extremely well run — the best in Colchester and the staff are all angels. I would not have my wife anywhere else.” Another told us, “This home is the best there is and could not do more for my wife and myself. Every care home should be like Alderwood, a shining example of excellent care,” while a third added, “Exceptional care and consideration. My relative is treated as family and we are very happy we chose this care home.”
