For history lovers, there are National Trust properties and historic gardens to visit, and for heritage enthusiasts, why not visit Cressing Temple or Hedingham Castle? Alternatively, you can go shopping at Freeport, and there are plenty of places to stop for a coffee and some lunch to refuel.

The A12 and the A120 make the journey between Braintree and our care home a relatively easy drive depending on the traffic. To get to Alderwood Care Home from Braintree, take the B1256 out of Braintree to the A120 and continue on this road until you get to Colchester. From here, take the A12 exit onto the A133 and drive onto Essex Hall Road where you will find Alderwood Care Home.

Clacton

Clacton-on-Sea is Essex’s largest coastal town and a lovely location for a day trip with a loved one residing at Alderwood. From strolling through the seafront gardens to enjoying fish and chips with a sea view, if the sun is shining, Clacton is a fantastic place for a coastal day out.

Alderwood Care Home is around 18.5 miles from Clacton, the drive should take around 30 minutes if the traffic is fair. Thanks to the A133 and the A120, Alderwood is an ideal option for those looking for residential care in Clacton.

Hedingham

To drive to Alderwood Care Home from Hedingham, follow Duguard Avenue onto Straight Road in Colchester. Continue on Straight Road and on to Essex Hall Road. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Essex Hall Road where you will find Alderwood Care Home.

Mersea Island

Mersea Island is only eight miles wide and is separated from the mainland at high spring tide. At low tide, the island is accessed by a causeway, and it is a very popular location for a day trip. Many visitors head to West Mersea for its charming shops and to watch the boats docking at the jetties.

The drive from Mersea Island to Alderwood Care Home should take around 20 minutes. Leave the Island via The Strood and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A134, stay on the A134 until the roundabout where you take the 1st exit onto Essex Hall Road.

Sible

The village of Sible Hedingham is in the north-east corner of Essex and is close to both the Suffolk and Cambridge borders. The drive from the village to our care home takes around 35 minutes making it a commutable distance if you are looking for specialist dementia care near Sible Hedingham.

To drive to Alderwood Care Home from Sible, head south-east on Berwick Court towards the A107. From here, take the A1124 to Essex Hall Road, at the roundabout stay on Essex Hall Road and you will see Alderwood Care Home.

Tiptree

Tiptree is a large village in the Colchester district. The village is probably most famous for the Wilkin & Sons range of preserves and honey that are manufactured in Tiptree; in fact, the village’s name is even an internationally recognised brand. If you are visiting Tiptree for the day, make sure to stop into the tea room and visitor centre.

The drive from Tiptree to Alderwood Care Home should take around 20 minutes. Leave Tiptree via the B1023 and continue on this road until you can take the A12 and A133 onto Essex Hall Road, follow this road, going straight on at the roundabout until you see Alderwood Care Home.

West Bergholt

The village of West Bergholt is just over 2 miles from Alderwood Care Home, making it the perfect choice for those looking for residential care in Colchester. The drive should only take around 8 minutes, along the B1508.

West Mersea
